Painting Time

Had the best day painting today. Still working on these little wooden panels, it's taking longer than I expected though. The view is pretty nice too, shame about those clouds coming over.

Pastels

Look what I rediscovered today, my pastels from high school. I remember how fond of them I used to be. I used them to create my Year 12 Major Work all those years ago. I also remember the teacher getting them for me for the "special price" of $40 and thinking that Mum would never let me buy something so expensive. Mum obviously believed in me and my art back then, I don't know if she realises that, that was the moment I knew I wanted to be an artist. I cherished them then, and I cherish them even more now.

Fun Time Friday

I took a little side trip on the way home this morning after taking the kids to school. This beautiful place is just down the road from where I live, but today Mother Nature was putting on a show just for me (lol).

After that little pit-stop, I had to go home, tidy up a bit then sit down to paint for a few hours before the weekend craziness begins.

So I have 10 little ones on the go and am hoping to finish them pretty quickly. Wish me luck! The nasty weather seems to be on my side.

Little Wooden Panels

I made a little trip to The Art Shop at Mona Vale today, not to buy little wooden panels, but paint. They just got these in this morning, so I just had to buy some. I have quite a few little ones I want to paint, beach scenes to be exact, they are SO much quicker than the big ones - unless you are painting 10 at once like I decided to do - eeek.

My studio is colder than cold at the moment,  it takes a while for the paint to dry, so I've taken over upstairs and found this nice little warm place in the sun. It doesn't feel like winter at all up here.

More Painting Progress

She is coming along nicely, I think. Today I worked on the sand and the water. The colouring of the girls body is annoying me slightly, I can't quite get it right. I still have a while to go, but am enjoying painting this one.

New Work in a Cold Studio

It's been so much fun having time in my studio lately, even the cold can't keep me out of there. I managed a few hours in there today but I had to bundle up! I had to wear my apron over my coat and scarf, and I had my Ugg boots on too. I had the music cranked up, and loved every minute of starting this new painting. It will be a girl and her surfboard lying on the shoreline. I'll post some progress shots as I go.

Thinking of new paintings

When I paint, I work from my own digitally enhanced photographs. I then draw directly onto the canvas using a watercolour pencil which is easy to erase with water. Then I begin to paint! I don't have washes or layers over each other, my paintings have a "cut out" opaque look. I like to use unusual or unexpected colours at times to make it more interesting. Have a look at my website to see more.

Ideas

Yes, the ideas are coming thick and fast lately. I started this big canvas a while ago, but I've only just gotten back to it. It feels really good to be painting large again. Sorry, the photos aren't very good quality, my iPhone does't like dull light.
