Work in Progress

Painting in the person today, not time to sit and type, lots to do. The kids are out with their Uncle in the city today. This has been my most productive school holidays EVER!!

It was a little bit windy, but it was a glorious day. R had his little friends party down at the beach.

I snapped a couple of inspiration pics looking out the window of the party (pretty nice huh?), then I went home, grabbed my sketchbook and had a little play. Here's what happened...

More Colour Blocking

We're home again now, I love a quick trip to see my parents.

Progress on this one looks like it is going slow, but I have to paint several layers of the same colour over each other to make it opaque. I added the white waves and shadow on the ground today, played around with the umbrella a little bit (I'm still not happy with it) and, I played with my kids. A really great Friday! Here's to the weekend, hope yours is fun!

Blocking In

I got a few extra colours blocked in on this painting this morning before I left for Mum and Dad's. I'm up here for the night to see them both, and pick up my kiddies. Both boys have been drawing so much up here, they have a huge stack of drawings to take home and are so proud of them. They have had a wonderful time, with limited technology, which has been so good for their video game obsessed little brains.

Funnily enough, my Dad has been sitting down with them drawing, for hours sometimes. I think I must get my artistic gene from him, he is always drawing the funniest caricatures. Check out his drawing below, copied from the kids story book Little Critter.

New Work

I'm a little bit obsessed with this little thing called Instagram. I can't help myself, but I keep looking at other artists progress, process and everything in between and become completely overwhelmed with what I want to achieve. It does my head in some days. So much that I have to take a step back, refocus and completely SIMPLIFY everything! I tend to overthink my paintings sometimes, trying to cram too much onto the canvas or the next 10 paintings I want to do. So the new one I started today, instead of drawing onto the canvas, I decided to sketch my outline with some fluid paint and see where it took me. I'm liking where this is going, what do you think?

I managed a few hours blocking in this evening, gosh it's a good feeling when the paint goes on quickly and I know which direction I am going in. I have simplified my style, and this has happened, I'm a very happy girl!

Tuesday's Progress

Re-working some of the ocean today, I painted out some of the people on the shoreline that I didn't like.

So I hate to say it, and it's only Day 2, but I actually miss my boys a little bit. The house is so quiet, and for a little minute I found myself wondering what I was missing out on seeing them do with my Mum and Dad. How much fun are they having? Well, they haven't wanted to call us even once, so I'm guessing they are having a blast!!!

I am also having a blast! Although, it has made me think of all the misused hours before I had kids. What did I do with all that time I had? Yes, I wish I had it back of course, but it has lead me to where I am today, so I can't complain. Back to painting now, hubs will be home late tonight, so I think I have an hour or so  painting/planning left in me yet!

Lots of umbrella's also added to my beach scape today.

I had a whole day in the studio today, no interruptions, nothing! The kids are away and I ditched the housework. I had no guilt of trying to get everything else done before my painting started, no little mouths to feed and no ordering little ones around to do their chores. Hubs left for work early, so after my morning walk and shower, I started painting. What a wonderful feeling that was! I'm back painting the big one for a couple of days. It's a lot of fiddly little bits, painting in the people, but  I'll get there...

Packing up for a few days...

I've got lots of people coming tomorrow for my big boy's 10th birthday, so I have to pack up my little  work space in the sun, for a couple of days. The kids are leaving straight after the party to go to their Grandparents house for the first week of the school holidays, so I plan on getting loads of painting done from Monday onwards. It's a pretty rare occurrence for them to be away, so I am going to take full advantage of the extra time. I can't wait!!!

Waikoloa Sunset Painting

I started this painting way back in April, just after we got back from Hawaii. I drew inspiration from an actual Hawaiian sunset (see the original photo here) at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on the Big Island. I'm so close to finishing it, stay tuned...

I love Moo for business cards, they really are lovely to hold and to look at. The rounded corners are pretty special too.

Go get yourself some here.

This morning - so pretty

Our big boy turned 10 today! Boy how time flies. We baked chocolate cupcakes with pop rocks on top for his class today, then this evening we had chocolate mud cake at home. He was pretty chuffed with his present and had a smile on his face all day. Such a sweet boy, I love him so much!

My fave brushes at the moment.
I finished a couple of these little ones yesterday and I think I want to frame them in oak frames to give them a finished look. I'm hoping to have some time soon to finish the rest, but I keep finding excuses not to paint, my mojo is slow this week. What can I do to get it back?
