Sunny Day Snorkel

This  painting has been a bit of a labour of love. There have been good times and bad times, but I think it is now finished. There is quite a bit of detail going on, I think with my next painting, I will try to simplify a bit more.

I called it "Sunny Day Snorkel". There is a certain point during the day when you go out for a snorkel, the sun is shining bright, the tide is perfect, and millions of fish are enjoying the warm sun as much as you. Their bright colours are more intense and everyone is having a good time. That's how this painting makes me feel.

Unfortunately, it is raining outside right now and I'm so cold sitting in my house. I think winter is almost here....

Getting there...

I have been painting little bits here and there of this painting over the last few days. It used to look like this, but I reworked a few areas and I am much happier with the way it is heading. There are still a lot of areas to paint, I'm having fun. The bottom two pics are close ups, the colours make me smile.

Mr Hockney

I mentioned in a post back in April about an exhibition catalogue that my husband bought home for me from London. David Hockney, A Bigger Picture. I have been completely consuming every page and am loving his bright colours and unique style. I've been a fan of his since high school and I am very excited that my lovely husband remembered.

I was reading about all the digital drawing he has been doing on his iPad for the last 5 or so years.

I have this underwater theme going on at the moment (in case you haven't noticed) and decided to try it out, drawing on my iPad. I use the Brushes app that Mr Hockney uses, as well as the SketchbookX app that is FREE. I can open all of my drawings in both apps and get different effects going, switching between the two. They have a lot of different brushes and patterns. I have a long way to go though, I'm just a learner at drawing on my iPad, but it is a lot quicker process. No brushes to wash, the colours are infinite, and you can have something decent in a short amount of time. You can see a pic of my studio wall from about a month ago here. There are a few that I did early on stuck to the wall for inspiration.
Don't worry though, I'm not giving up my real brushes and paint, it just doesn't have the same effect that a painting on canvas has. If I work between the two (and all the other mediums I play with ) hopefully it will stretch my imagination a little more.

The Armchair Collective

I went with my lovely friend Lizzie for breakfast yesterday morning to a cafe that i didn't even know exhisted. The Armchair Collective is hidden from the main shopping area of Mona Vale, but if you head down towards the beach, there it is. An old 70's arched building that has been made into a fantastic cafe/store. They have beautiful home wares, armchairs and the atmosphere was lovely on this beautiful Autumn day. We'll be back for sure, my breakfast was delicious!

Pretty sure this one's now finished.
I finished this small piece today, I quite like the colours and those little zig zag fish are quite cheeky. It was fun to paint.

Painting today...

Great painting light this morning. Should be a productive day. Work in progress.
I have left this one for almost a month now and am ready to get back to it again. There are some parts I don't like so they will go today. I have the day to myself and am meant to be doing housework but that can wait. I feel the need to paint. Here goes...

Slightly North

My lovely sister in law is here for a visit for a few days and we decided to do something out of the ordinary and drive up to Avalon for a coffee. Today was as beautiful as ever so we stopped at a few different places on the way. Warriewood beach was stunning!
Insanely gorgeous day!

Avalon had the most beautiful azure blue water but it looked cold.
We had a coffee with little Remi outside the Mark Tuckey Home store. The things in that shop are to die for. I only spent a little bit and then we were on our way.

It was such a nice way to spend the morning, then I came home to paint while Gabby took Remi to see Gramps. I couldn't have had a better day!

A treasure chest for my little pirate.

I made this treasure chest cake for the finale of birthday week.
Today was the finale of birthday week for little Remi. This was his 4th cake for the week and the most fun - the family BBQ. He celebrated with his cousins Layla and Thomas who also have their birthdays in May. It is a lovely get together at this time of the year with most of our extended family. Another gorgeous Autumn day proved to be a hit with everyone. I didn't see a tear all day from the kids. Thanks for a lovely day everyone. Xo

Remi is 4!

The birthday boy - 4 today! He is pretty happy about it too. He can't smile big enough.
I can't even believe he is 4 today! Even though it feels like he has been here forever, I don't want him to grow up. He is my baby, my little guy. He has dimples to die for and a wicked sense of humour. He loves to climb trees and is really good at sulking when he is cross. He likes superheroes and wears his long stripy socks up to his knees. I love your guts little Remi! Happy Birthday my big 4 year old!
Pretty high for a little kid.
Another cake for birthday week. He wanted orange today. Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. Our fave.
