A little taste...

A few snippets of some paintings I have been working on lately. Lots more to come though, I am really loving where these are going. The colours are quite bright and the ideas are flowing, what more could I want?

Another week rolls around and I have barely had time for anything. I can't believe it's Monday again already!

My parents stayed with us for a few days, which was lovely. We went to the Art Gallery of NSW last Friday before the Picasso Exhibition finished on Sunday - great exhibition by the way. I love a quick trip into the city to one of my favourite places. We even had time to wander around a few floors of the gallery before heading back over to our side of the bridge for school pick-up.

Yesterday we went up to North Head at Manly for a dedication ceremony for my Grandfather (whom I never met, he passed away before I was born), and his Engineers Division of the Army from WWII. There is now a permanent ceremonial walkway that I plan on taking the kids to, to see some of our family history. It was a really lovely dedication and the sound from the bagpipers was so wonderful and uplifting. Also, it was really great to see some of my extended family as well.

Last week I was going through a few old drawing inspiration. I am still working on some larger paintings that I hope to have finished by the end of the week.

The Sides

I finished this little painting yesterday. It was the last of 4 really small 8in x 8in canvases I wanted to use. All 4 of them look quite good together, it's like you are snorkelling above a reef. Wouldn't you agree?
When I put them all next to each other, I was quite enjoying the side views, they look pretty cool all stacked.
Now onto something larger, I am slowly making my way up to bigger paintings, I'm trying to use the canvases that I have laying around my studio, there are quite a few smallish ones, but today I'll do a medium sized one just to loosen up a bit. Let's see what happens...

A Gorgeous Weekend

The whole weekend was sunny! I know, shock - right? On Saturday I only spent a short time painting, the rest of the time was filled with the usual - Saturday gymnastics for the kids and quick stop at the supermarket for some groceries.

Sunday was gorgeous! We ate a relaxing cooked breakfast out on our balcony. We then took the kids to one of our local beaches for a bike ride along the boardwalk, then a play at the park. A little bit of painting after dinner on Sunday night finished off a lovely weekend with my family. Little "R" wasn't feeling the best, so it was a nice easy weekend for him too.

How beautiful is this place we live in....

I finished 2 small paintings too, pretty happy with that.
I paint around the sides of my paintings, no need to frame them if you don't want to.  I like the side view as well.

I can't stop painting, the creative juices are flowing once again. These two small works were also finished this week. I am aiming for an exhibition (I'll keep you posted on where and when).

I also have a couple of commissioned works to do over the next few months. Eeek!

Busy, busy!

"One Orange Fish"

Remember this painting from last year? Well now, it looks like this...
One Orange Fish
I never actually finished it (until now). Ideas were still being tossed around in the back of my head (somewhere) for a few months. Today I had music playing, the paints and brushes organised and off I went. I've been playing with it for a few days now, and am very happy with the finished painting.

We've traveled to Fiji every year for the last 5 years and each time we visit, I am more and more inspired by their underwater paradise. The last time we went (in October), I took tons of underwater photos which were the inspiration for the next few paintings I am working on. I am enjoying the colours and the layering, I may even do a few collages. Below are a few instagram pic I took yesterday of what I am working on. The first one is finished, the others I'm still playing with. Tell me what you think. One of my latest paintings. Beneath the Surface Beneath the Surface II. Acrylic on wood panel.
