Tuesday

With my big boy back at school today, I was able to spend some time on a new painting. I have been painting a lot lately. In the past I mostly worked on larger pieces, no smaller than a metre square. I have recently converted to using small canvases and finishing each artwork a lot faster which makes me want to paint more. My studio and the kids play room are in the same room so the little one is starting to play by himself a lot more while I sit and paint.

The above painting was finished yesterday afternoon with it's partner of the same size. It is a departure from what I normally paint, but I am really into shapes and bold colour at the moment to give some neglected areas of my home a wake up shot of colour.

I know, it's a shocking photo of it, I took it on Photo Booth on my Mac and cropped a section of it. It kind of shows all of the wobbly bits up that close - oops. I am hoping to have my camera back soon to be able to show you where I hang them in my house, you know, with the styling done to make them look good.

I love it when I get things done. Oh happy day!

The Sydney Royal Easter Show

Last Friday we braved the crowds and took the kids along to see The Sydney Royal Easter Show out at Sydney Olympic Park. I haven't been to The Show since I was a child, and back then it was in the middle of the city. I used to be a country girl back then and loved every minute of the stinky animals. This time however, I almost threw up a few times while inside the animal areas. The kids absolutely loved it, they got cow poo on their shoes, and we didn't mind a bit!

We patted everything we could get our hands on, and even saw baby chicks breaking out of their eggs. The cow parade was an awesome sight, hundreds of cows all lined up ready to strut their stuff in the main arena. We loved it all.

(I accidently deleted all the pics off my camera, so I have attached a few from flickr. Click the *** to go to pic on flickr.)
The kids thought the cows were huge!
A cute little calf above.
The Farmyard Nursery was really lovely. We all got to pat and feed many kinds of farm animals.
The Racing and Diving Pigs were hilarious. We sat right at the top of the stand and couldn't see much of the racing, but it was fun anyway.
Next up we watched a few people lose money on the clown balls, and then went on the Giant Slide. SO MUCH FUN!!! I haven't felt that kind of adrenalin rush for years. It was scary as well as exhilarating.
Luca and I took a long ride on the Sky Walk Ferris Wheel above. It was so peaceful, just the 2 of us, we could see for miles.
There weren't many quilts on display, only a few small ones and a couple of larger ones. I guess the have to fit so much into the show that each area of display only gets a certain amount of space to show things.
The fruit and veg displays once again blew my mind. Everything that you see is made from fresh produce. A M A Z I N G !
The thing that the boys were desperate to see was Robosaurus. A huge metal car crunching robot dinosaur. Need I say more!

We had a really fun time at The Show. The day/night went so fast, we could have done so much more, but it was quite exhausting. The kids came home with 2 show bags each (Luca got a Professor Jelly Science Bag as well as How to Train Your Dragon show bag and Remi got Lazytown (it has a bat and ball which he hasn't put down for a week) and Backyardigans show bags).

Quiet Times

My little ones have been so ill since Easter. Hopefully last night was the last of the vomit and they are now on the mend. I hate to see them sick, but I must admit, I really enjoy the quiet moments when they are sleeping, or laying down watching a movie. They are normally bouncing off the walls.

Even though there were a thousand chores to do, I sat down yesterday and took a little time to start 2 new small paintings. I have had them in my head (and sketchbook) for a while, they are for me, for the living room, to add a little splash of colour. Hopefully I will have something to show by the weekend.

Fairy Garden

How gorgeous are these. One of the kids found them yesterday at the school which backs on to my cousins house. They are each no bigger than the tip of my pinky finger. They look like a little fairy garden don't you think?? I see a small painting in the works....

Easter Craft

Some Easter Crafts with the kids made a rainy day lots of fun. You would think being the creative type I would love to make things with my kids. I hate to say it, but I am really impatient when it comes to painting with them. They get so messy and all I can think about is the clean up. This time I limited the paint to a small water colour tray and a ton of water, they made hardly any mess at all. They were both pretty chuffed with their final product, bunny ears and face. We also made an easter egg basket from a recycled egg carton.
