My Clever Sister

I'm taking a quick break from my housework right now while my little Remi is at Kindy for the whole day today. I wanted to show you how clever my Big Sister Leanne is. Look below at a couple of the quilts she has done recently.

Not only is she a Mum of 3 outgoing boys and a wife to a lovely man, she is also a Sewing Teacher, Machine Quilter, President of the Central Coast (Australia) Modern Quilt Guild and  My Big Sister. She has a lot going on. On her days that she is not working as a Sewing Teacher, she does machine quilting for clients on her huge quilting machine at home. I am always on the phone to her asking how to sew different things, and the right way to cut fabrics, any excuse for a chat right?

The quilt below is called "Tutti Frutti" and has been made using Tula Pink's Flutterby.
This cot size quilt below is called Rush and is a mixture of various fabrics.
This one is called "Jewels" and is made using Anna Maria Horner's Good Folk's fabrics with a couple of other solids and marbles as well.
The back of "Jewels" below.
This below is "Summer Soiree" using Lila Tuella's Soiree fabrics along with some solids.
So, go and check out her blog, it's worth it!

The Dingle by The Lake.

We got the whole family together today for the kids birthdays in May, well the ones who live in driving distance. We met at The Dingle Boat Shed by the lake and had a lovely day catching up with those we haven't seen in a while. It was lovely, just us, just family.

There were three kids birthdays to celebrate, so of course there was a cake for each. Layla turned one, so her Mum made a shimmery butterfly cake. Our boy Remi turned two, so I made him a chocolate mud cake and frosted it in The Wiggles colours (I took the easy way out this time). And little Tommy also turned two and his mum made a Handy Manny cake. The kids all thought it was fantastic having so many cakes to choose from. There was quite a bit of each left over, which means a few more days of celebrating at home - eating cake.
Little Remi got a mini skateboard for one of his gifts, and was instantly attached to it for the rest of the day. He can already stand on it by himself, he practiced a lot by the lake, with Daddy.
We need more of these days especially after the week I had last week, including a small accident in the car, a guy ran into me - oops. Hopefully this week is better. I have lots planned.

Letter Writing

It's funny how we take for granted the ability to write beautiful letters to our friends and family in faraway places. It is a wonderful thought to go to the letterbox every day and receive a hand written letter from someone we love. Nowadays, we switch on the computer and check our email, from our 3 or 4 email accounts, 3 or 4 times a day. Too easy I admit, and a little lazy.

The other day I came across my old hand written letters from the '80's when I was in International Pen Friends (which I just found out still exists). I had Pen Friends from Malaysia, Japan, India, France, Brazil, Norway, New Zealand and Poland. In the early 1980's I remember writing every week to at least one or more of them. They were all different ages and all had an interest in drawing, stamp collecting and sports, like me at that age. I really liked the images from the stamps on the letters they sent to me and the thought of those distant places that I would one day be able to travel to. Maybe a chance of one day meeting one or more of them in person was always a wonderful thought.

I can't bring myself to throw them away, they will be fun for my kids to read when they are the same age I was when I received them. Even though I no longer write to any of them, hopefully my kids will appreciate the time it took to build these relationships and make some of their own.

I am off now to check my letterbox, or was it my email???

New Carry All Play Mat colour at Remi and Jack

Look at my gorgeous boy modeling the newest colour of Carry All Play Mat for me this morning. He was very cooperative and even put on a cheesy smile for me. He got some Trio (Fisher Price) for his birthday from my Parents, and was having fun fiddling with it for ages while I was taking a few photos for the Remi and Jack Blog (R&J).
We have added the AQUA BLUE pictured at the top of the pile in the pic above. I just love the double thickness of these mats for all the wear and tear they will endure, they should last forever.

Business is going really well. We get a lot of traffic over at R&J searching for Lego Drawstring Play Mats. They are flying off the shelves almost as soon as we receive our shipments.

Finding time to do anything more than posting them out is a bit of a challenge with little Remi by my side. I manage a few hours each evening to get orders done, which seems to be working. I have a few samples that have been sent off for upcoming projects, so his one day a week at Kindy will be full to the brim working on R&J. That starts next week, so until then, I am off to play with my boy.

Under the Weather

I'm not feeling so well today. I managed a little quilt sewing this morning, but my day got worse over time. I am now on my third Lemsip. They seem to work for me for about half an hour, but after that, the horrible pain in my head and runny nose come back. I managed to bake some blueberry muffins this morning, they go perfect with my Lemon Lemsip. Time to lay down now. Oh yay, the Wiggles are on the TV - again! ZZzzz...

My boys first cousin on Daddy's side of the family was born today. We went and saw little Clayton at 4 hours old. The boys LOVE him and I think he is pretty special too. Congratulations J & M.

This is a painting I finished just after the last two ("Lemon and Lime"). It is a simple small 45cm x 45cm and is a splash of colour in the kids play area. This one I have called "Puzzled".

Two on the 2nd

Today was our little Remi's 2nd Birthday. I am perplexed as to where all that time has gone. How and when did 2 years go past so fast? Isn't he is just lovely. I love you my little boy!

It was a long and unusually hot day. We had a family BBQ with his Grandparents as well as a few other relatives at our place. We will see the rest of our family in 2 weeks at the May Cousin Combo Party at "The Dingle". Can't wait!

Lemon and Lime

These two small paintings were finished a few weeks ago. They have been hanging for a while but I have been incredibly busy with a million things going on. I think they look pretty good where they are, above a giant plasma TV in an awkward position. They have made the living room more vibrant too. They are called "Lemon and Lime" - the one on the left has a single bright lemon stripe and the one on the right has a single lime stripe.
