On the Home Stretch

I have been horizontal for the last 3 days with the flu, talk about knock me out! I came home from taking Luca to Kindy on Tuesday morning with all good intentions to paint for the whole day - and even maybe finish my painting. As I sat and had my cup of tea, I kept feeling more and more exhausted, and ended up laying down for 2 days, I did half a days painting yesterday and the pic up there, is where we are at right now. I have until 4pm Saturday to deliver it to the "gallery". I think it looks promising. Actually, I have no doubt it will be finished. Luca is now asleep, I don't know how long for, so I am now going to FINISH my painting. It's a big painting - 36x36in, it takes a while.

Keep away from anyone with this flu - it's a mean one!
I'm smiling again,

I was playing around yesterday with the colours and fonts and forgot to save my changes on my blog page until now. I have been playing around to get it right, and I like what I have come up with now. Nice colours, easy to read and fun to look at.

Painting for most of the day yesterday (after Mac's 3 year old birthday party), and more of the same today.

Short and sweet!
Happy day,

A quick break...

I have been painting on and off today, in between doing laundry, cleaning up toys, cleaning windows and vacuuming. I took some photos yesterday afternoon of the progress of my painting.

Luca doesn't give me many chances to paint throughout the day at the moment. It kind of goes in waves, he will only keep himself occupied playing with his thousands of toys for a few minutes at a time.

So we decided it was a good day to make some cupcakes. No reason why, just spending time doing something fun together.

They taste delicious!

Happy Thursday!

The birth of a painting...

I started a large painting on the weekend for the Warringah Art Exhibition. I am pretty pleased with what I have come up with. I get a whole day to paint without interruption today with Luca being at Kindy. I dropped him off (my car had to go for a service, so we were out bright and early) and have been painting for a few hours already.

This photo is from the weekend when I had only just done a sketch of what I am doing on the canvas. You can see the pic stuck to the top left corner of the canvas, that's what I am painting, in my own style of course. I have previously blogged this building here. I think it just has an awesome feel about it, and is one of the last unrenovated beach front apartment buildings in the Warringah area. Hopefully my painting will look something like the pic below.

Back to painting now. I have a lot to do and only a few hours left to do it.
Have a lovely day,

To enter, or not to enter...

I want to submit an entry in for the Warringah Art Exhibition but have no idea what to put in. I have 15 days until I have to submit something. The gloomy weather really isn't helping with the inspiration thing, and everything I have already painted seems inappropriate - I don't think any of them would be chosen, they are too "out there". The exhibit seems a little more conservative to me. That's my thoughts from viewing previous years shows, and also my previous entries. Some kind of seascape might work, large scale, not too many colours. We'll see. I am off now to try and put something down on canvas. Hopefully it all works out. I AM being optimistic!

Happy day!

:: 10 things I love ::

I was reading through the Treasuring blog and was inspired to post about 10 things I love (other than my family).

:10 things I love:

1. sleeping in past 7am
2. having fresh fruit cut up on my cereal
3. when old friends call out of the blue and want to catch up
4. hearing luca's footsteps first thing in the morning
5. sitting outside in the winter sun
6. looking through old photos
7. reading stories to my boy
8. looking from our balcony in winter at whales splashing in the ocean
9. fresh flowers
10. luca's innocence

Just a quick one today...

Only 1 day until the weekend,
That makes me smile,

Oliver the Illustrator

I gots me some new boots....
I couldn't deal with my cold feet any longer. The central heat is broken in our place and it is SO cold in the evenings that I just had to get myself some roxy UG's. I haven't had a pair of UG's since I was about 12 when we used to go camping. I thought they were too daggy up until now, until I realised they are really comfy and warm. I wanted a pair last winter, but didn't get them quick enough and they sold out, I think I will get a lot of wear out of them for years to come. MMmm mmm toasty!

Anyhoo.. I went out to run a few errands this morning and went into the book shop. I always like to find new books for Luca. We read to him so much, I think it is us who are bored from hearing the same stories over and over again. We love this book we bought in L.A last year called "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers. The illustrations are just gorgeous, and the story is very sweet. His website is pretty cool too.

I knew there were 3 that he has had published. I found one today called "The Incredible Book Eating Boy", and couldn't resist buying it. I even put his first book on order "How to Catch a Star" - we just LOVE them.

I am off to do some painting now, I have a full brain and there are things trying to get out onto the canvas.

Some birthday wishes today too...

Keep Smiling...

Please motivate me.........

After a post-less week full of running around after a terrible 2 year old, plus all the rainy days, I have been trying to find a way to get motivated to paint or draw or something like that. I kept putting it off all week, no reason why, I just kept finding other things to do. I have SO many paintings to do, hopefully this week will be more productive. Tomorrow I will start fresh when "L" goes to Kindy. I must have vacuumed the apartment 6 times last week with my new Dyson vacuum cleaner (which I am SO incredibly happy with). Now I am over it and want to get on with doing some work.

So to start off the week with something fun, I thought I would do the Sesame Street Personality quiz. Apparently I am Big Bird. I guess that's good, he has a cool friend called Snuffelupagus (?). Anyway, it was fun, go and have a go yourself - you know you want to....

You Are Big Bird

Talented, smart, and friendly... you're also one of the sanest people around.

You are usually feeling: Happy. From riding a unicycle to writing poetry, you have plenty of hobbies to keep you busy.

You are famous for: Being a friend to everyone. Even the grumpiest person gets along with you.

How you life your life: Joyfully. "Super. Duper. Flooper."

I AM MOTIVATED, I promise!!!

Happy Day,

Happy Birthday To Me!

What a lovely Birthday I have had. It was kind of a 3 day event with my parents coming to stay on Saturday night and going to see my Aunty star in the stage show Oklahoma - she was so fantastic as Aunt Eller.

On Sunday some more of my family came to visit and we had lunch in a restaurant by the lake. The kids went crazy and were all running around threatening to jump in the lake. There were quite a few families there, so our craziness seemed normal. The sun was shining, it was a beautiful day. We went home for a nap in the afternoon, then went out for dinner to a Japanese BBQ restaurant. It was SO delicious, I could eat like that every day. Luca was so good, I was really surprised, I guess a little bribery goes a long way.

Today Luca and I spent the day together, going to the park, running along the beach and building a Thomas the Tank Enging train set. Too much fun! Also, a visit in the afternoon from my Brother was a nice surprise.

I got some lovely gifts, one of which was a Print Gocco. My Japanese Sister-In-Law was very sneaky and heard me talking about it at a family BBQ a few weeks ago. She asked her Mum to send one from Japan, along with a few additional inks, bulbs and mesh. I am a very happy girly today.

To top things off, my lovely husband went to the Lindt Cafe near where he works in the City, and bought the most delicious chocolate cheesecake. Luca sang me the most beautiful rendition of 'Happy Birthday' and my night was complete.

So off to bed I go with fond thoughts of the last few days.
